14 August is Coming: 6 Meaningful Things to Do for Pakistan's Independence Day

As the 14th of August draws near, the streets of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and cities across Pakistan are lighting up in green and white. While buying flags, decorating our homes, and singing national anthems are beautiful ways to celebrate Youm-e-Azadi (Independence Day), true patriotism lies in how we treat our homeland the other 364 days of the year.

This 14 August, let’s go beyond the traditional festivities. Here are six actionable, meaningful things you can do to make a lasting, positive impact on Pakistan.

1. Plant an Oxygen-Giving Tree

With climate change affecting Pakistan severely, one of the greatest gifts you can give your country is fresh air. This Independence Day, plant a high oxygen-producing tree or indoor plant.

·        Outdoor: Plant native shade trees like Neem, Peepal, or Sukh Chain in your community park.

·        Indoor: Bring home oxygen-boosting plants like Snake Plants or Aloe Vera.

2. Upcycle Plastic Bottles into Flower Planters

Plastic pollution is a massive issue in our urban centers. Instead of throwing away empty cold drink and water bottles after your 14 August celebrations, recycle them! Cut a plastic bottle in half, poke a few drainage holes at the bottom, paint it green and white, and plant a beautiful flower or herb in it. It’s a fun Independence Day DIY project for kids that teaches them sustainability.

3. Water the Existing Plants Around You

Sometimes, you don't need to plant a new tree—you just need to save an existing one. Take a walk around your street or local neighborhood block. If you see dried-out plants, parched community gardens, or dusty bushes, take a bucket of water and give them life. A green Pakistan starts right outside your front gate.

4. Set a Firm Resolution: "No Trash on the Roads"

Patriotism and littering cannot co-exist. The most patriotic resolution you can make this 14 August is a simple one: Never throw trash on the road again. Keep a small garbage bag in your car or bike, and hold onto your wrappers until you find a dustbin. If every Pakistani made this simple pledge, our cities would transform overnight.

5. Donate to NGOs Supporting Free Education

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah believed that education was a matter of life and death for our nation. True freedom is financial and intellectual independence. This 14 August, donate to local NGOs that are providing free education to underprivileged children in Pakistan. Whether it’s TCF (The Citizens Foundation), local community schools in Sindh, or a neighborhood tuition center, your funds can help build the future leaders of this country.

6. Clean Your House Surroundings

Charity—and cleanliness—begins at home. Before heading out for the Jashn-e-Azadi rallies, take an hour to sweep and clean the street immediately outside your home. Pick up the scattered wrappers, clear the storm drains of plastic bags, and make your neighborhood shine.

Happy Independence Day! Let’s celebrate our beautiful Pakistan not just with slogans, but with actions that make our nation greener, cleaner, and smarter. You can do a lot—start today!

The 8GB Immortal: Is the RX 590 Still Worth It in 2026?

The AMD Radeon RX 590 is the "undead" champion of the Polaris era. Released in late 2018 as a 12nm "last hurrah" for the architecture, it was essentially a factory-overclocked RX 580 on steroids. Now that we are in 2026 , the RX 590 has transitioned from a mid-range workhorse to a legendary budget relic. If you’re still rocking one—or considering picking up a used "Fatboy" for a ultra-budget build—here is how it stands in the current landscape. Performance: The 1080p Reality Check In 2026, the RX 590 is no longer the 1440p contender it once claimed to be. How to Make Your eMMC Storage Phone Faster: 7 Proven Fixes

How to Make Your eMMC Storage Phone Fast To make an eMMC storage phone fast, you must reduce the number of read/write operations and free up space. The fastest fixes include keeping at least 20% of your internal storage empty, switching to "Lite" apps, clearing cached data, and moving large media files to an external SD card or cloud storage. Why Is eMMC Storage Slow? eMMC (embedded Multi-Media Controller) is an older, budget-friendly flash storage technology commonly found in entry-level and mid-range smartphones. Unlike the newer UFS (Universal Flash Storage) which can read and write data simultaneously, eMMC processes tasks one at a time (half-duplex). When your phone tries to update an app, download a file, and load a game at the same time, an eMMC drive creates a bottleneck, resulting in lag, stutters, and slow app launch times. According to flash storage benchmarks, an eMMC 5.1 drive has a maximum sequential read speed of roughly 250 MB/s, while even an older ...
