From Chaos to Beauty: Rare Double Rainbow Lights Up Karachi Sky After Heavy Rainfall

Karachi Rain & The Rare Double Rainbow: A Day of Chaos and Beauty (April 2026)

By TheTalksTalks | Published: April 2, 2026

Karachiites witnessed a rollercoaster of weather today as a powerful westerly wave turned the city’s skyline from a dusty grey into a canvas of vibrant colors. While the afternoon was marked by torrential rain, hailstorms, and urban flooding, the evening offered a rare peace: a stunning double rainbow that had the entire city reaching for their phones.

The Storm: Rainfall Records in Karachi Today

The rain began in the early afternoon, with several areas reporting intense thunderstorms. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the highest rainfall was recorded in Nazimabad (Paposh Nagar) at 69.6mm, followed closely by Keamari (56mm) and Saadi Town (48mm).

Area in Karachi

Rainfall Recorded (mm)

Nazimabad

69.6

Keamari

56.0

Saadi Town

48.0

Bahria Town

North Karachi

The storm wasn't just about water; hailstorms were reported in Mauripur, and wind speeds peaked at 47 km/h near the airport, causing several trees and signboards to fall.

The Magic Moment: Why a Double Rainbow?

Around 5:30 PM, as the clouds parted to let the evening sun through, social media (X and Instagram) was flooded with photos of a Double Rainbow (also known as a secondary rainbow).

How does it happen?

Scientifically, a double rainbow occurs when light is reflected twice inside a raindrop. The secondary bow is usually fainter, and interestingly, the colors are reversed—with violet on the outside and red on the inside. For a city that had just spent hours navigating flooded roads on Sharea Faisal, it was a much-needed morale booster.

Rain Emergency: Essential Safety Tips

Despite the beauty, the Karachi Commissioner has declared a Rain Emergency. Here is what you need to know to stay safe:

1.     Avoid Electric Poles: Heavy rain often leads to short circuits. Tragically, four people were reported electrocuted today. Stay away from hanging wires.

2.     Traffic Routes: Major congestion was reported near I.I. Chundrigar Road and NIPA. Authorities advise using alternate routes via Stadium Road or University Road.

3.     Emergency Contact: If you need assistance with de-watering or rescue, call the 1299 helpline.

What’s Next? Karachi Weather Forecast

The PMD predicts that this westerly system will persist until April 4, 2026. Expect intermittent light showers and cloudy skies over the next 48 hours. Temperatures are expected to stay between 23°C and 27°C, giving us a brief break from the typical April heat.

NEPRA Net Billing Policy 2026: How the New Solar Buyback Rates Affect You

The End of an Era: Pakistan’s Shift from Net-Metering to Net-Billing Pakistan’s renewable energy landscape is undergoing a seismic shift. Following months of speculation, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has officially notified the Prosumer Regulations 2026 , marking the end of the traditional net-metering system and replacing it with a "net-billing" framework. This move has ignited a fierce debate between the government, which cites grid stability and financial equity, and solar users who feel penalized for investing in clean energy. What is Changing? From 1:1 Exchange to Buy-Back Rates Under the previous Net-Metering system, solar prosumers (consumers who also produce energy) enjoyed a 1:1 unit exchange. If a household exported one unit of electricity to the grid during the day, it could offset one unit consumed at night. The new Net-Billing policy fundamentally changes this math: Buy-back Rate: Excess electricity exported to the grid wil...

The 8GB Immortal: Is the RX 590 Still Worth It in 2026?

The AMD Radeon RX 590 is the "undead" champion of the Polaris era. Released in late 2018 as a 12nm "last hurrah" for the architecture, it was essentially a factory-overclocked RX 580 on steroids. Now that we are in 2026 , the RX 590 has transitioned from a mid-range workhorse to a legendary budget relic. If you’re still rocking one—or considering picking up a used "Fatboy" for a ultra-budget build—here is how it stands in the current landscape. Performance: The 1080p Reality Check In 2026, the RX 590 is no longer the 1440p contender it once claimed to be. However, its 8GB of VRAM has aged like fine wine, keeping it relevant while many of its 4GB and 6GB contemporaries (like the GTX 1060 or 1660) have fallen into obsolescence.
